Refrigerator and Freezer Removal in Fort Worth

The refrigerator in the garage is a Fort Worth institution, and it is also the appliance most likely to be sitting there long after it stopped working. Refrigerant means it cannot go in a general load, which is exactly why it is still there.

Why a refrigerator is not just a heavy box

A refrigerator contains refrigerant, and refrigerant is regulated. It cannot legally go into a general waste stream, which is why municipal bulk collection almost universally excludes these units and why a landfill will turn one away at the gate.

That is the whole reason so many of them end up as permanent garage furniture. There is no casual way to get rid of one.

We route refrigerant-bearing units to facilities equipped to reclaim it properly. From your side that is invisible — the unit goes on the truck like anything else — but it is the part that makes the disposal legal.

Units we collect

Kitchen refrigerators

Side-by-side, French door, top and bottom freezer, and built-in units pulled from a cabinet run.

Garage second fridges

The beer fridge that stopped cooling three summers ago. Extremely common in this market.

Chest freezers

Heavy, low and awkward to lift. Best handled with three people rather than two.

Upright freezers

Including units that have defrosted and need draining before they move.

Wine and beverage coolers

Under-counter and freestanding units, built-in or not.

Mini fridges

Dorm and office units. Small, but still refrigerant-bearing and still regulated.

Before we arrive

Two things make a refrigerator pickup go smoothly, and both take five minutes. Empty it, and let it defrost with a towel underneath if it has been running until recently.

A unit that is still full is heavier, and anything liquid inside will find its way onto a floor during the tilt. Neither is a disaster, but it is a much cleaner job if the unit is empty and dry.

  • Empty the contents beforehand
  • Defrost freezers where possible, with a towel down
  • Unplug the unit an hour or two before
  • Clear a path from the unit to the door

FAQ

Refrigerator and Freezer Removal in Fort Worth — common questions

Do I need to have the refrigerant removed first?
No. We take the unit as it stands and route it to a facility equipped to reclaim refrigerant properly. That is part of the service rather than something you need to arrange.
Can you take a built-in or cabinet-mounted refrigerator?
Yes, though built-ins sometimes need trim or a surround removed to come out. Send a photograph and we will tell you what is involved before you book.
The chest freezer in the garage is full of old food. Is that a problem?
It is better emptied, both for weight and for what happens when it tilts. If that is genuinely not possible, tell us when you book so the crew brings covers and plans the carry accordingly.
What if the refrigerator is still running fine?
Yes. If it is functional and you would prefer it donated, flag it and we will keep it separate. Whether a receiving organization accepts it is their call.
