Where to Take Old Furniture in Fort Worth
With a City of Fort Worth solid waste account, old furniture can go free to any of the city’s four Drop-Off Stations, or out to the curb in your monthly bulk week. Who you are decides the route more than what the piece is: apartment residents, landlords and anyone outside the city limits each have different options.

The short answer
Fort Worth’s Drop-Off Stations treat furniture as bulk waste — anything too big for the residential garbage cart. A household with a city solid waste account can bring bulk waste and household garbage free, with unlimited visits, up to 5 cubic yards a month combined.
The paperwork is the part that catches people. You need a copy or photo of a water bill from the last six months and a driver’s license that matches it, and the account holder has to come along: you cannot lend your bill and license to a friend with a truck. A load over the monthly limit is turned away whole; the station will not take part of it.
If the piece can wait, the curb is the other free route. The city’s monthly bulk collection takes what is too large for the brown cart: at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your assigned week, one pile of up to 10 cubic yards per household.
The four Drop-Off Stations
Open Tuesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Closed Sunday, Monday and city holidays.

Every route, and who it is open to
| Route | Who can use it |
|---|---|
| Drop-Off Station | Fort Worth households with a city solid waste account. The account holder comes, with a water bill from the last six months and a matching driver’s license. Up to 5 cubic yards a month, shared with household garbage. |
| Monthly curbside bulk | Houses on the city’s curbside garbage service. One pile of up to 10 cubic yards, out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your bulk week. |
| Goodwill donation point | Each Drop-Off Station has one. It takes gently used items, furniture included, but not bedding or mattresses. |
| Apartment residents | Stations take only recycling and household hazardous waste from apartment residents. A sofa needs a different route: donation, your building’s own arrangement or a paid pickup. |
| Landlords clearing a rental | Not the stations, which refuse landlord-based waste from Fort Worth rental properties. That goes to the city’s Southeast Landfill, charged by the ton with a one-ton minimum. |
| Outside Fort Worth | Non-residents cannot use the stations. Each suburb runs its own bulk program, and the rules change at every city line. |
Taking a load to a Drop-Off Station
Six checks that decide whether you unload or drive home again.
- 1
Make sure nothing on it is refused
Stations refuse gas cylinders, engine parts, concrete and tile, roofing, and anything containing asbestos.
- 2
Measure it against the limit
Bulk waste and household garbage share 5 cubic yards a month. Over that, the whole load is turned away.
- 3
Bring the papers
A copy or photo of a water bill from the last six months, and a driver’s license that matches it.
- 4
Bring the account holder
The person on the bill comes with the load. Nobody can go on their behalf.
- 5
Strap and cover it
A load that is not secured or covered is refused at the gate.
- 6
Donate before you dump
If the piece is still good, stop at the Goodwill point first. It takes furniture, though not mattresses or bedding.
Or put it out for bulk week
For a house on the city’s curbside service, bulk week costs nothing and needs no trip. The pile goes out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your assigned week — as early as 6 p.m. the Friday before — as one pile of up to 10 cubic yards; a bigger pile costs extra.
Keep anything the city excludes out of the pile. Appliances holding coolant, tires, electronics and contractor debris are on the exclusion list, and a pile with an excluded item in it becomes a non-compliant pile, which the city collects for a charge.
The limit of the route is the carrying. Every piece has to reach the curb by your own effort, and then wait there for the truck.

Related questions
- Is there a free place to dump furniture in Fort Worth?
- Yes, if your household has a City of Fort Worth solid waste account. The four Drop-Off Stations take bulk waste free, up to 5 cubic yards a month combined with household garbage. The account holder brings a water bill from the last six months and a matching driver’s license.
- Can someone else take my furniture to the station for me?
- Not on your account. The city says the account holder has to go along; a friend cannot use your water bill and license. If the account holder is elderly or disabled, the city asks you to call 817-392-1234 to arrange a visit.
- I rent an apartment. Can I use a Drop-Off Station?
- Only for recycling and household hazardous waste, using your driver’s license. Furniture and other bulk waste are limited to households with a city solid waste account.
- Can I take furniture to the landfill myself?
- Yes, for a fee. The city’s Southeast Landfill at 6288 Salt Road charges a minimum one-ton rate, or by the ton for larger loads, and Benbrook points its residents there for bulk items too. The city publishes no hours for it, so call ahead on 817-478-6462.
- Can a mattress go to a Drop-Off Station?
- As bulk waste, yes, for an account holder within the monthly limit. What a station will not do is take it as a donation: the Goodwill points accept furniture but not bedding or mattresses.
